Kindle Vella Shutting Down And What It Means For My Works

Updated: Jul 21

Unfortunately, Amazon has decided to close their Kindle Vella service as of February 26th. This decision was made by Amazon, not by me, and it impacts all authors, not just myself. I have no control over this. What does this imply? It means that all Vella stories (short form, episodic content) will no longer be accessible or unlockable with tokens after the 26th. Authors can no longer publish new stories. What does this mean for my audience specifically? It means that "Trials of Incomplete Heroes: Forgotten Explorations" will not be available to those who haven't unlocked it by the 26th. If you have already unlocked it or used tokens on the 4th episode, you will still be able to read it on the Kindle app for Android or iOS. If you haven't unlocked it by the 26th, it will be inaccessible. Token purchases have already been discontinued. I believe Amazon will handle refunds for unused tokens, but you will need to contact them regarding this.

What does this mean for the future of "Trials of Incomplete Heroes: Forgotten Explorations"? I won't let this short story fade away entirely. I'm still considering my options. The story isn't lengthy enough to be published as a standalone book, and I can't justify Amazon's minimum e-book price of $0.99, especially since most of the story was available for free on Vella. I ask for your patience and understanding as I weigh my choices. I'll inform my audience once a decision is reached and share what that decision is. Meanwhile, if you've been planning to unlock it on your Kindle app, now is the time to do so.
